Deer River

The Deer River flows Northwest from its headwaters at Debar Mountain. Located within the Deer River State Forest, the 8.5 mile section below High Falls has everything from gentle flatwater to Class VI rapids for experts only.

Upper Bridge to Middle Bridge

Distance: 2.6 miles
Access: Webster Mills Road
Description: After a short 200 ft portage to a pool below the bridge, you'll experience a mix of flatwater and up to Class III rapids, and a short carry at an old dam.

Middle Bridge to Lower Bridge

Distance: 2.9 miles
Access: Reynoldston Road
Description: The Deer River transforms into a meandering flatwater with the exception of one Class I rapid just before the lower bridge is reached.

Lower Bridge to Church Road Bridge

Distance: 3.1 miles
Access: Conservation Road
Description: The complicated series of rapids and drops, up to Class VI in difficulty, requires several carries. This whitewater kayka section is suitable for expert paddlers only, scouting and high water necessary. Optional take-out points at campsites along Conservation Road.
