Saranac Lake Attractions
In the heart of the Adirondacks Lakes Region, Saranac Lake offers small town charm with big time attractions. For a stirring performance of Death of a Salesman or a new take on one of Shakespeare’s classic tales, head to Pendragon Theater, an intimate performing arts center offering live performances and local talents. Main Street is lined with boutiques offering unique gift items, clothing and original artworks, and the Adirondack Carousel on Depot Street is a must visit for families.
If you find yourself itching to explore, Dewey Mountain Recreation Center provides mountain biking, hiking and trail running in the summer and fall, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. For beginner alpine skiers and riders, Mount Pisgah offers beginner trails and snowtubing day and night. Don’t miss the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, held annually in February, for 10 days of festivities and fun.
Tupper Lake Attractions
Home to one of the most innovative museums in the Adirondacks, Tupper Lake is a gem to visit any time of year. The Wild Center offers exhibits bringing the wonders of the outdoors to life, from the smallest frogs, to the museum’s resident otters.
Big Tupper Ski Area, a historic ski mountain, offers family-friendly, affordable skiing for all abilities. The mountain relies on natural snowfall, and opens when conditions permit. In the summer and fall, the Tupper Lake Municipal Golf Course, located at the base of Mount Morris, offers a challenge to even the most accomplished players. Designed by Donald Ross, the mountainous course offers rolling fairway and small greens.
Nestled close to the Canadian border with Quebec, Malone is the home of Titus Mountain ski center, two championship golf courses, the Almanzo Wilder Farmstead and acres of recreational trails.
Winter at Titus Mountain offers epic skiing and riding, as well as night skiing and snowtubing for cold-weather adventure. The Malone Golf Club, home of PGA of America Secretary Derek Sprague boasts 36 holes and challenging terrain. For family-friendly fun, tour the childhood home of Almanzo Wilder, famed author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s husband, whom she featured in her book Farmer Boy.
