Built in 1894, the Saranac Laboratory was the first laboratory in the United States built for the study of tuberculosis. The museum features exhibits on TB research and patient care and "The Great War: WWI in Saranac Lake". Guided tours of the building interpret Saranac Lake's unique history as a pioneer health resort. The museum is open July 15 to October 8, Wednesday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or any time by appointment. Cost is $5 per person. Historic Saranac Lake also operates the Bartok Cabin, where composer Bola Bartok spent the last summer of his life writing two pieces, his Third Piano Concerto and Viola Concerto. Tours of the cabin available by appointment. Cost is $5 per person.

A driving tour of a still-mysterious Underground Railroad operation in which fugitives were concealed in a specially-constructed church, then smuggled through other stops and finally across the Canadian border twelve miles north. Sites associated with Ashbel Parmelee, Jabez Parkhurst, William Wheeler, Charles Bowles, John Dimick, Nathaniel Colver and Luther Lee will be visited. Tours arranged by appointment. Camp Guggenheim is located on Lower Saranac Lake in the amazing Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The five special sessions at Guggenheim are specially designed for 12-15 year olds, while our famous Week 6 is developed just for 16-18 year olds. We welcome campers each week without regard to race, creed, color or national origin.
